The contest closes on 30 November 2020, Monday (midnight IST).

What are the rules?

The rules of the contest are as follows:

  1. You should start your poem with a four-word sentence.

  2. Your poem must contain only two colours.

  3. Your poem can mention as many kitchen-related items/objects. However, please ensure that you mention at least two.

  4. Use of enjambment in the verse is optional.

  5. The poem can be in English or Hindi.

  6. Please refrain from using obscenities in your poem.

Asian Extracts Magazine invites submissions for our second issue coming out in January 2021.

Who Can Submit: Emerging writers from Asia are encouraged to submit. Submissions in all languages (with or without translation) are accepted.

Deadline: There is no deadline. However, submissions received at a later stage will be considered for subsequent issues.

General Guidelines

Thank you for considering Asian Extracts for the publication of your original creative nonfiction (essays, reviews, interviews, photo essays on travel, food, entertainment, culture, history, etc.), fiction (flash fiction, short stories), poetry, or art.

Asian Extracts publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art by writers from Asia.

  • We do not charge for submissions.

  • Submit all your work in Times New Roman 12-point font, single-spaced in a Microsoft Word document.

  • Submissions in all languages (with or without translation) are accepted.

  • We are assuming we have non-exclusive right to publish your submission unless you tell us otherwise. Please be sure to submit work that is previously unpublished or has permission to be republished. Tell us in your cover letter whether your submission is exclusive to us or whether you have submitted to other magazines as well. If another magazine accepts your work for publication, please get in touch with us immediately.

  • There is no limit on the number of submissions made by a submitter. However, please consider the guidelines as mentioned—poetry (up to three poems), fiction (flash fiction, short stories), creative nonfiction (essays, reviews, interviews, photo essays on travel, food, entertainment, culture, history, etc.) or art (up to five images).

  • Please send high-definition images for art submissions and/or for photographs sent along with creative nonfiction submissions.

  • If you are sending work in more than one category, please send your submissions in separate documents.

  • If you are sending more than one poem, please combine all poems in one document and start each poem on a new page. Each poem must have a title.

  • If you are submitting art, please make sure that it includes a title, medium, and date.

  • Please make sure to provide sources wherever necessary in your submissions.

  • We respond to all submissions by email. If your work is selected to be published, we will get back to you within two weeks.

  • Please make sure to save rajiv.narang@asianextracts.org and rathi@asianextracts.org in your contacts to prevent our response being caught up in your spam folder.

We accept submissions only via email.

The body of your email must include the following details:

Size/Word Limit

· Fiction (Short Story): Up to 2400 words

· Fiction (Flash Fiction), Creative Nonfiction: Up to 1200 words

· Poetry: Up to three poems

· Art: Up to 5 images
