Asian Extracts Issue No. 2: Call for Submissions

Asian Extracts Magazine invites submissions for our second issue coming out in January 2021.

Who Can Submit: Emerging writers from Asia are encouraged to submit. Submissions in all languages (with or without translation) are accepted.

Deadline: There is no deadline. However, submissions received at a later stage will be considered for subsequent issues.

General Guidelines

Thank you for considering Asian Extracts for the publication of your original creative nonfiction (essays, reviews, interviews, photo essays on travel, food, entertainment, culture, history, etc.), fiction (flash fiction, short stories), poetry, or art.

Asian Extracts publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art by writers from Asia.

• We do not charge for submissions.

• Submit all your work in Times New Roman 12-point font, single-spaced in a Microsoft Word document.

• Submissions in all languages (with or without translation) are accepted.

• We are assuming we have non-exclusive right to publish your submission unless you tell us otherwise. Please be sure to submit work that is previously unpublished or has permission to be republished. Tell us in your cover letter whether your submission is exclusive to us or whether you have submitted to other magazines as well. If another magazine accepts your work for publication, please get in touch with us immediately.

• There is no limit on the number of submissions made by a submitter. However, please consider the guidelines as mentioned—poetry (up to three poems), fiction (flash fiction, short stories), creative nonfiction (essays, reviews, interviews, photo essays on travel, food, entertainment, culture, history, etc.) or art (up to five images).

• Please send high-definition images for art submissions and/or for photographs sent along with creative nonfiction submissions.

• If you are sending work in more than one category, please send your submissions in separate documents.

• If you are sending more than one poem, please combine all poems in one document and start each poem on a new page. Each poem must have a title.

• If you are submitting art, please make sure that it includes a title, medium, and date.

• Please make sure to provide sources wherever necessary in your submissions.

• We respond to all submissions by email. If your work is selected to be published, we will get back to you within two weeks.

• Please make sure to save rajiv.narang@asianextracts.org and rathi@asianextracts.org in your contacts to prevent our response being caught up in your spam folder.

Know Your Poet: Anshuman Shukla

Anshuman Shukla

Anshuman Shukla is a Cyber Security professional and 'almost' a poet at heart. Contrary to his professional requirement, he hates technology; on weekends and holidays, he can be found enjoying carpentry instead. When it comes to poetry, Anshuman enjoys writing freestyle verse and admires all the poems about the Moon! He aspires to own an auto-driving, no-fuel-required vehicle one day.

He is also an admin of the Delhiwallah Poetry Collective.

अभी इसी समय

कहीं चल रही है साईकल

कहीं ट्राम, कहीं ट्रेन

कहीं हवाई जहाज़

कहीं पानी का जहाज़

कहीं रिक्शा, कहीं बग्घी

कहीं मनुष्य पैदल

कहीं किसी की गोद में

कहीं किसी के सहारे या बोझ में

कहीं यांत्रिकी मनुष्य को खींचती हुई

कहीं मनुष्य ही मनुष्य को खींचता हुआ

कहीं मनुष्य स्वयं को खींचता हुआ

अभी इसी समय

हो रही है बारिश

एक बच्चा चला रहा है कागज़ वाली नाव

अभी इसी समय

कोई बच्चा, उड़ा रहा है कागज़ के जहाज़..

कागज़ पर ही

लिखी जा रही है घटनाये

बनाये जा रहे हैं चित्र

लिखे जा रहे हैं गीत

बनाये जा रहे हैं लिफाफे उसी कागज़ के

इसी समय

कई जन्म हो रहे हैं

कहीं हो रहीं हैं शांति सभाएं

कहीं उड़ाई जा रही हैं चादरें

कहीं इसी समय

शीत से भागे

पलायन शुरू हुआ है पंछियों का

कहीं चीटियों ने लगा ली हैं कतारें

कबूतर बैठ गए हैं एक तार पर

तोते लोगो के पिंजरे में हो रहे हैं कैद

बंदर छोड़ें जा रहे हैं पहाड़ों में

शेर बचाये जा रहे हैं

श्वान कम किये जा रहे हैं

कछुआ, इस समय भी, चल रहा है

इसी समय

मेरे आंगन में आकर बैठा है एक नीले पंख वाला पक्षी

इसी समय

सूर्यास्त हो रहा है कहीं

कहीं उग्र धूप है

कहीं समस्त जल सूखा जाता है

कहीं जंगल जल रहा है

कहीं पहाड़ नाराज़ हैं

कहीं पुल बनाये जा रहे हैं

एक बालकनी में पौधे सँवारे जा रहे हैं

इसी समय

मेरे अस्पताल में

नकली हाथ लगाए जा रहे हैं

हृदय में भाव जगाये जा रहे हैं

आंखों में आशा के चश्मे लगाए जा रहे हैं

इसी समय

अपनी मृत्यु को प्रतीक्षित

कोई अपने रेडियो पर किसी गाँव में

अपना पसंदीदा राग सुन रहा है

कोई देख रहा है अपने पोते की अठखेलियां

किसी क्रूरता को अनदेखा करते हुये

अभी इसी समय

सड़क बनाई जा रही है

पेड़ उगाये जा रहे हैं

ट्यूबवेल चलाये जा रहे हैं

यात्री घुमाये जा रहे हैं

इसी समय

पतंगे उड़ाई जा रही हैं

इसी समय

दूरबीन लगाई जा रही है

कहीं सामने वाले पड़ोसी

कहीं दूर कहीं निशाना

कहीं शून्य में कोई प्रकाश

ये सब खोजे जा रहें हैं

इसी समय

अनगिनत अनदेखी अनसुनी अनछुई अनभिज्ञ

विद्युत चिंगारियां

संन्देश पहुँचा रहीं हैं

कहानियाँ सुना रही हैं

षड्यंत्र बनवा रही हैं

इसी समय

यही विद्युत

मेरे और तुम्हारे शरीर को

कभी सुचालक, कभी बाधा बनाकर

जीवन की ऊर्जा पिघल रही है

अभी इसी समय

अनगिनत प्रेम श्रुतियाँ कही जा रही हैं

अनगिनत धर्म बनाये जा रहे हैं

अनगिनत संकोच समय को व्यर्थ कर रहे हैं

अनगिनत नए वर्ष कैलेंडर में बांधे जा रहे हैं

इसी समय

मेरी समझ कम होती जाती है

मेरी पीड़ा बढ़ती जाती है

मेरे भाव निष्क्रिय होते जाते हैं

और इसी समय

एक पुरानी किताब में एक गुलाब वाला फूल रखा जा रहा है

इसी समय

तुम क्रोध की ज्वलन में

उन अनगिनत लोगो में शामिल हो जाते हो

जो पिछले समय प्रेम में थे मात्र

और इसी समय

तुम बारिश उधार ले सकते हो क्रोध अग्नि बुझाने को

तुम उस बच्चे के साथ पानी वाला जहाज बना सकते हो

तुम गीत गा सकते हो

तुम खेत मे अन्न ऊगा सकते हो

तुम कंदमूल भी खा सकते हो

तुम शून्य में विचर सकते हो

तुम विज्ञान में विलुप्त हो सकते हो

या तुम प्रेम श्रुतियाँ लिख सकते हो

तुम कविता पढ़ सकते हो

तुम इस समय, चुनाव कर सकते हो…

The Wordkeepers
